Conclusion

Pennsylvania is in the midst of a long term statutory recodification project. Until the project is completed, researches looking for Pennsylvania statutes will need to search both the old unofficial statutory code (the Pennsylvania Statutes) and the new official statutory code (the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes). The available electronic resources allow researchers to search the two codes simultaneously.

The print Purdon's Pennsylvania Statutes and Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes Annotated includes both codes, and provides an index that covers both codes.

The Pennsylvania General Assembly's Web site provides free acces to an unannotated version of Westlaw's Pennsylvania statutory codes.

It is important for Pennsylvania researchers to cite to the appropriate code. The citations for the two codes are not interchangable.
